Brutalism in Moldova

Moldova's concrete modernism dates from the late Soviet decades, when Chisinau received experimental housing and public buildings alongside standardized construction. The best known is the Collective Housing Tower Building "Romanița" (1986) by Oleg Vronsky, a slender cylindrical tower of petal-like balconies that has become an unofficial symbol of the city. Chisinau's wider stock of Soviet-era cinemas, circuses and civic halls forms a substantial if endangered heritage, now attracting documentation efforts.
