Brutalism in Kosovo

1 brutalist building on the map · photos, architects and locations

Pristina's skyline carries the marks of Yugoslav modernism, when Kosovo received major public investment in the 1970s and early 1980s. The most prominent concrete landmark is Pristina's Sports and Youth Palace (1977), designed by Živorad Janković and Halid Muhasilović, a vast sports and culture complex whose angular roof structure dominates the city center. Together with the nearby National Library, with its domes and metal lattice, it defines the experimental streak of the era's architecture in Kosovo, buildings that remain both used and debated today.
